Google Forms to PDF automatically, one PDF for each answer
People fill in your Google Form. Each answer needs its own document. It might be a booking note, an order form or a signed agreement.
Google Forms does not make a PDF for each answer by itself. You can print one answer at a time, but the layout is fixed. This guide shows how to make a PDF from your own template. It happens each time someone sends the form.
What you need
- A Google Form that sends its answers to a Google Sheet.
- A Google Doc or Google Slides file to use as the template.
- A Drive folder for the new files.
Step 1: Send the form answers to a sheet
Each answer becomes one row in a sheet. Each question becomes one column. Here are Google's steps:
- Open your form in Google Forms.
- At the top, click Responses, then Summary.
- Click More, then Select destination for responses.
- Choose Create a new spreadsheet or Select existing spreadsheet.
Source: Choose where to save form responses, read 20 Oct 2026.
Open the sheet. The answers are in their own tab. Row 1 holds the questions.
Step 2: Make the template
Write the document in Google Docs or Slides. Where an answer goes, type a tag. A tag is a column name in double angle brackets, such as <<Full name>>.
The column names are your questions. A long question makes a long tag. That is fine. You can also pick the column for a tag from a list later.
Not sure your tags match? Read how to write merge tags for a Docs template. It has a tag checker you can try.
Step 3: Set up the job on the answers tab
Go to the tab with the answers. Open Extensions, then Fillmore, then Open Fillmore. Press Set up a job for this tab.
- Press Choose template and pick your Doc or Slides file.
- Check that each tag has a column.
- Press Choose folder and pick the folder for the PDFs.
- Under Each row makes, pick A PDF.
Step 4: Turn on form merge
Open More options. Turn on Make files for new form answers by itself. The line under it says what happens. When someone sends the form, Fillmore makes their file at once.
Press Save job. Fillmore may ask for your permission first. It needs it to work while the sidebar is closed. Press Grant access, then choose Allow.
If no form sends answers to this tab, Fillmore says so under the switch. Link the form, and Fillmore starts then.
Step 5: Email the PDF to each person
Do you want each person to get their PDF? Your form must ask for an email address. Then turn on Also send each file by email, also under More options. Pick the Email column, and write the Subject and Email text.
With email on, each new answer gets its file and its email at once. The email guide explains each email setting.
Step 6: Send a test answer
Open the form and send an answer yourself. Then look at the sheet. A column called "Fillmore status" shows the result. A done row links to its file.
Open the PDF and check it. If a tag is still there, its column name does not match. Fix the tag or the column, then save the job again.
What to know before you rely on it
- It makes files for new answers only. Answers sent before you turned it on get no file. Press Make files once to make those.
- Each person who turns it on gets their own. Another editor sees that form merge is on for someone else.
- While your own big run is still working, new answers wait. They are made when the run finishes.
- Google allows each person 20 automatic tasks across all their sheets. Fillmore tells you if you reach that.
- Google's daily limits still apply. See the daily email limits for the numbers.
Common questions
Can I undo files made from form answers?
Not with Undo this run. That button covers runs you start yourself. Each form file is in your folder, and its row links to it.
What if a row fails?
Its status cell says what went wrong and how to fix it. Fix it, then press Make files. Fillmore makes files for rows that have none.
Does it work with Slides templates?
Yes. Pick a Slides file as the template. Each answer then gets its own Slides file or PDF.
Does Fillmore copy the answers anywhere?
No. The answers stay in your sheet, and the files stay in your Drive. Read the privacy policy for the details.
